Recital Line Up
Below is the recital line-up to help you determine which dance your child will be doing first and therefore which costume/shoes they should arrive and what additional costumes/shoes they should bring with. If you are unsure which class your dancer is in, please check with Miss Breanna as soon as possible -- if you wait until recital day, we may not be available to answer your questions!
Drop Off (Pre-Dress Rehearsal AND Pre-Recital)
Dancers should arrive to dress rehearsal/recital at their designated times listed above in their costume, tights and appropriate dance shoes with hair and make-up done. Only dancers, Prime Technique Dance Academy Staff and volunteers will be allowed backstage.
All dancers MUST USE THE RESTROOM immediately prior to being dropped off backstage. Dancers should not bring food, beverages (other than water), gum, toys, jackets, street shoes backstage. The only belongings dancers should bring backstage is their change of costume/dance shoes if they are in more than one routine — they should already have their costume and first pair of dance shoes on before heading backstage. We will have activities to keep dancers occupied — as a friendly reminder, Prime Technique Dance Academy and its staff/volunteers are not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged personal items that dancers choose to bring backstage. NO FOOD backstage. All dance shoes and costumes, whether worn or carried in, MUST BE LABELED with your dancer’s name.
Pick Up (Post-Dress Rehearsal AND Post-Recital) ***PLEASE READ THIS PORTION CAREFULLY!!!***
At dress rehearsal drop off, the parent/guardian who is dropping off will be provided one wristband for their dancer(s) if they are in Pre Ballet, Kinder, Beginner or Intermediate classes. DO NOT LOSE THIS WRISTBAND – at the conclusion of both dress rehearsal and recital, we will announce which dressing rooms are ready for pick up and only the parent/guardian with the wristband will be allowed backstage to pick up their dancer. We ask that you locate your dancer as quickly as possible, assist them with cleaning the area they occupied, inform your dancers Room Mom that your dancer is leaving and exit the backstage area in the same direction that you entered as quickly as possible. Miss Breanna will be stopping parents/guardians to confirm wristbands match each dancer. Please be patient with this process!
If you lose your wristband, you will need to wait in the lobby until all the other students have been dismissed before your dancer is brought out to you. Please do not approach the backstage door unless you have a wristband!
Dancers in Advanced, Junior Elite, Elite and Senior classes will be dismissed to their parent/guardian in the lobby AFTER the younger classes are dismissed. Please be patient! Thank you in advance for your patience as we pilot this new pick-up procedure. Our hope is that this method will expedite the pickup process at the end of both dress rehearsal and recital.
Costume
Costumes and/or recital tights should be hung in a safe spot to avoid wrinkles and not be worn except for picture day, dress rehearsal and recital. Costumes must be in new condition without any alterations/additions (unless sizing alterations are necessary – costumes are not custom fitted, so you’ll want to have your dancer try his/her costume on immediately upon receiving so you are aware if you’ll need to do minor alterations). Dancers with lost or damaged costumes will be unable to perform. After the recital, dancers are welcome to wear their costumes as often as they want! Costumes will not be given to dancers with outstanding balances.
Female dancers must wear the tights provided with their costume. Other than a nude sports bra for older dancers and/or a nude camisole leotard for coverage during quick costume changes (optional), additional undergarments/underwear are not necessary when wearing leotards and costumes – tights are a dancer’s “undergarments.”
The appropriate shoes MUST be worn in the specific colors listed below:
Absolutely no jewelry (necklaces, bracelets, rings, hats, bows) other than stud earrings should be worn.
Hair/Makeup
Girls should have their hair in a high bun on top of the head with loose hair/bangs secured back in a slick manner with hairspray or bobby pins (search “sock bun” tutorials on YouTube). Short hair that does not reach a bun should be pulled back into a ponytail as much as possible and secured with hairspray or bobby pins. Boys with long hair should secure it in a low ponytail.
It is common to wear stage make-up (foundation, pink blush, neutral colored eyeshadow, black eyeliner, black mascara, and red lipstick) during performances. This prevents the face from looking “washed out” under stage lighting. However, we recognize that this is a very personal decision for families, so make-up is optional, and parents are encouraged to only apply as much make-up as they feel comfortable.
Tickets/Recital Shirts/Digital Copies/Flowers
Recital tickets go on sale January 13th at 9:00 am, and all ticket sales will be handled through our online ticketing service which will allow families the new perk of choosing their own reserved seats! Each family (sibling pairs on the same Parent Portal account) will receive one access code to the one primary email listed on their Parent Portal account the week before tickets go on sale. Codes will not be emailed to Parent Portal accounts with an outstanding balance. To ensure everyone can purchase tickets, this code will allow each family to purchase up to six (6) tickets to begin with. Beginning January 23rd at 9:00 am, remaining tickets will be available online for purchase to families who need more tickets on a first-come, first-serve basis. Tickets are $12.75 each plus a convenience fee. All tickets must be pre-purchased, and all ticket fees are nonrefundable and nontransferable. Everyone attending the recital and occupying a seat must purchase a ticket. Children 2 years of age and under are free when sitting on a parent’s lap.
Recital shirts, digital copies of the recital and flower sales begin on December 4th, and the last day to order is December 31st. If you plan to pay via cash or check, please submit your order form online and turn in your payment before winter break begins on December 19th. If you plan to pay via card (3.75% processing fee applies), you have until December 31st to submit your order online. Recital flowers will be available for pick up in the WestPAC lobby during the 30 minutes prior to the start of the recital. Pick up for the digital copies and/or recital shirts will be announced.
Room Mom Volunteers
We are looking for 1-2 highly motivated mothers per class/level to volunteer backstage – we cannot do this without you! Room Mom responsibilities include arriving approximately 10 minutes prior to dress rehearsal and recital drop off times (unless another time is designated), supervising all dancers in your assigned class (not just your own child) for the entirety of dress rehearsal and recital, signing dancers out at pick up times, assisting with costume and shoe changes, escorting dancers to and from the stage quickly and quietly, etc. Room moms will get to see their dancer perform.
You will be notified via email if your dancers class still needs a Room Mom. If you are interested in being a Room Mom, AND your dancer’s class needs one, please reach out to Miss Breanna for a volunteer form to return by December 16th. Being a Room Mom is a great memory making opportunity, but we truly count on our volunteers to keep our dancers safe and help the recital run smoothly – if you are interested in helping, please be prepared for a fun-filled but very fast paced day!
Interested in helping, but not sure if you want to be a Room Mom for your child’s class? Or does your child’s class already have a Room Mom? We may also need “Overflow Room Moms” (Room Moms who assist with another class in the same dressing room as their child’s class), flower sales or ushers (great role for dads/male family members!). Please email us if any of these job interest you!
Video/Photography
Dancers will have photos taken in their costumes at the studio on the days listed below by Leonhardt Photography. Dancers may wear their hair how they like, but tights, costume and shoes must match recital day requirements. You will receive access to password protected picture proofs by February 24th and can order digital copies of photos thru March 26th. Digital copies of photos include all printing rights and the ability to share with family and friends. While photos are being taken, only dancers and Prime Technique Dance Academy staff members will be allowed in the classroom. Due to time limitations, we may not be able to accommodate special requests (i.e. photos with siblings, friends, etc.).

The recital will be recorded. Digital copies of both recitals on one USB will be available for $5 per copy. This is a great way to share your dancer’s performance with family and friends and allows you to be “in the moment” during your child’s performance! For the safety of our dancers, photography and videography of the recital is NOT allowed under any circumstance. Audience members found taking photos or recording will be asked to leave.
In addition to turning off or silencing all electronic devices and refraining from taking photos and videos, we ask that all audience members remain seated in their reserved seat for the duration of the show. It is incredibly important that the aisles and exit remain clear from foot traffic. If you must leave, we ask that you do so in between routines and wait until we are in between routines again to return to your seat.
As always if you have any questions or concerns regarding the recital, please let us know. We are here to help and want this performance opportunity to be a positive experience for everyone!
